Online Therapy for Teens & Adults Across Ohio

Online therapy allows you to meet with your therapist through secure video from a private location anywhere in Ohio.

If you have used FaceTime, Zoom, or another video-calling platform, the experience will feel familiar. Instead of traveling to an office, you join your therapy session from your phone, tablet, or computer using a secure telehealth link.

How Does Online Therapy Work?

Your therapist will meet with you through a secure video platform provided by SimplePractice.

Before your session, you will receive a link that allows you to join your appointment.

At the scheduled appointment time, you simply open the link, allow access to your camera and microphone if prompted, and enter the video session with your therapist.

Where Can I Attend My Therapy Session?

  • A private room
  • A parked car
  • A private outdoor location
  • Another quiet and confidential space

You must be physically located in the state of Ohio at the time of your appointment.

If you attend from your vehicle, the vehicle should be safely parked for the entire session. Therapy sessions should never be attended while driving.

As with in-person therapy, privacy also depends partly on the environment you choose for your session.

Whenever possible, choose a location where other people cannot easily hear your conversation.

What Is Online Therapy Like?

For most clients, an online therapy session feels very similar to an in-person conversation.

You and your therapist can see and hear one another in real time and talk throughout the session just as you would if you were sitting in the same room.

The main difference is convenience.

You can attend therapy without commuting, taking additional travel time away from work or family, or arranging transportation.

Can I Attend Therapy From Work?

Yes, as long as you have a private space where you feel comfortable speaking openly.

Many clients attend sessions from a private office during the workday.

Headphones can help increase privacy.

Can I Attend Therapy From My Car?

Yes, if your vehicle is safely parked in a private location.

A parked car can provide privacy when another quiet space is not available.

You should never participate in a therapy session while driving.

Can I Attend Therapy While Traveling?

Your therapist's ability to provide treatment is generally based on where you are physically located during the session.

New Leaf Psych clinicians provide telehealth services to clients located in Ohio.

If you will be outside Ohio at the time of an appointment, let your clinician know in advance.

Is Online Therapy Available for Teens?

Yes.

New Leaf Psych provides virtual therapy for teens ages 13+ as well as adults throughout Ohio.

For teens, it is especially important to have access to a private environment where they can speak openly with their therapist.

Your clinician can discuss privacy, parental involvement, and telehealth expectations during the first session.

What Happens If My Internet Connection Drops?

Sometimes that happens.

If the video connection is interrupted, try reopening your session link.

Your clinician can also discuss a backup plan with you if technical issues interfere with the appointment. Sometimes, the session can be switched to a phone call to mitigate connectivity issues.

Does Insurance Cover Online Therapy?

Many insurance plans cover outpatient behavioral health services delivered through telehealth.

Coverage, copays, deductibles, and other costs vary by individual plan and clinician.

What Happens at My First Online Therapy Appointment?

Your first appointment is an initial assessment.

It is generally more interview-style than future therapy sessions and gives your clinician an opportunity to learn about what brought you to therapy, your history, current concerns, and the goals you may want to work toward together.
